TITLE: Temporary Laborer
REPORTS TO: Project Foreman
DEPARTMENT: HOUSING
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Project Foreman, provides manual labor assistance on housing projects, helping with minor renovations, construction, installation, and repair performed on housing construction projects. Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists carpenter, plumbers, and other housing crew members with tasks on housing construction projects.
- Constructs, repairs, restores, and installs structures such as floors, doors, walls, windows, stairways, furniture, cabinets, shelves, and roofs.
- Plans and builds tribal building and residential construction projects for new home construction projects, home renovation projects, residential emergency assistance program, and other approved tribal housing activities.
- Assists in tracking materials allocated to housing projects for cost and inventory management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to successfully complete a background investigation and drug test.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.
- Policies, functions, and responsibilities of the Native Village of Kotzebue and Alaskan Native culture, traditions, history, and needs.
- Occupational hazards and applicable safety practices; safety codes and procedures.
- Carpentry and cold-climate residential building construction including plumbing and boiler systems.
- Understand and read blueprints, building codes and layouts, and construction drawings.
- Communicate effectively and interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
- Remain in compliance with Tribal Drug Free Policy.
