The Native Village of Kotzebue Direct Employment Services program is a twice-in-a-lifetime grant not to exceed $3,000 (in total) providing financial aid for those transitioning to new or full-time employment. The program provides limited first-month funding for self-sufficiency startup costs such as rent, transportation, basic necessities, and tools for specific job duties. Some restrictions apply.
Requirements
- Alaska Native/American Indian and a member of a recognized Tribe residing in Kotzebue for a minimum 31 days
- Must be 18 years of age, possess a marketable skill, and be underemployed
- Must demonstrate financial need
- High school diploma or GED
- Applicants must provide a copy of Certificate of Indian Blood, indicating at least one-quarter quantum Alaska Native or American Indian blood
- Clearly declare availability and intent to accept and retain full-time,permanent employment .
- Documented work history
- Verification of types of equipment and tools necessary for employment
- Two personal letters of recommendation
- Previous two months income verification
- Copy of DD-214 form, if applicant is a veteran
- Agree on an employment plan with a trained employment counselor
